Privacy policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
This policy explains how the GearCheck app for Android ("GearCheck", "the app"), developed by Yubal Torres ("we", "us"), handles your information.
Where your data is stored
What you create in GearCheck (your gear and serial numbers, kits, shoots, checklists, tasks, reminders and settings) is stored on your device, in the app's private storage.
Device backups
If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include GearCheck's data in your device backup, so it's restored when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. These backups are stored in your Google account and managed by Google under Google's privacy policy. We can't access them. You can turn backup off in your device's settings.
Purchases
GearCheck Pro is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment; we never receive your card or payment details. The app asks Google Play whether your Google account has an active Pro subscription and keeps that answer on your device, so it knows your plan even when you're offline.
Permissions
- Notifications: to show the reminders you set for your shoots.
- Alarms & reminders: to deliver those reminders on time.
- Run at startup: to schedule your reminders again after the device restarts.
Reminders are scheduled and shown by your device.
Contacting us
"Contact us" in the app's settings opens your email app with a message addressed to us. It includes the app version, Android version and device model, to help us answer, and nothing is sent until you send that email yourself. When you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and we use them only to reply.
Sharing a shoot
When you share a shoot, the app passes its text to the app you choose through Android's share menu. What happens next is up to that app.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't sell or share your information with anyone.
Google Play may give developers anonymous crash and performance statistics from devices whose owners allow it in their device settings. These come from Google, not from the app.
Children
GearCheck isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
You can delete any item in the app. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes all of its data from your device. To remove device backups, use your device or Google account settings.
Changes to this policy
We may change this policy at any time, without prior notice. Changes apply once they're published on this page, with the date at the top updated. Check this page from time to time to stay informed.
